What are you using essential oils for?
Essential oils can be used for many different purposes; for their aroma in the perfume industry, for their flavour in candy, and in cosmetics, but essential oils are also used therapeutically for supporting healing, immunity as well as uplifting negative feelings and encouraging positive experiences. Depending on your intended use of these plant essences, and for whom, children, elderly, during pregnancy or nursing, you may value different qualities. Often, the more you learn and experiment with essential oils, the more you become aware of the effects of certain oils versus others.
EXPERIMENT
I would like you to imagine drinking a glass of apple juice.
a) First a cold glass of clear juice, perfectly golden and sweet
b) Now a freshly pressed juice, beautifully cloudy and foamy, just picked from the September harvest.
c) Now imagine a juice made from apples grown in Asia or another country, non-native to apples.
All of these are apple juice sweet and delicious, but which one made you feel most nourished and invigorated?
BIOACTIVE pure, complete & vibrant
When you plan to use essential oils therapeutically for prevention or alongside allopathic treatments, it's important to get oils that are bioactive (have an effect on living organisms).
For a plant essence to be bioactive, it needs to be pure, complete, and vibrant. This requires a high level of integrity in the process:
THE PLANT
Respecting the integrity of the plant's unique qualities and needs to grow to protect, reproduce, and heal itself.
THE ENVIRONMENT
Preserving the integrity of the environment, cultivating the plants in their natural habitat with no chemical interference throughout the process, and allowing the earth to replenish its nutrients naturally, guaranteeing long-term sustainability.
THE ESSENTIAL OIL
Guaranteeing the proper processes of extraction for each plant, assuring cleanliness and proper laboratory testing of molecules present in extraction without alterations
THE SUPPLY CHAIN
Actively surveying and supporting the partners in the supply chain with integrity, from the farmers, and harvesters, to the distillers and bottlers.
My CRITERIA for COMPANIES
Bio, Organic, Natural
Make sure the plants are of the best quality.
Beware of greenwashing labels and the ethics of the company, if a company offers both bio and non-bio-oils, it doesn't really stand for quality and just wants to provide for as many clients as possible.
Environmental Responsibility
Plants are grown in their native environment sustainably.
If companies offer oils like Palo Santo or Rosewood, which are endangered plants, I prefer to use an oil of similar qualities than contribute to the extinction of a species.
Ethical responsible
Support local farmers, fair wages, and living conditions.
As many oils are cultivated in Third World countries, th company must actively supervise the supply chain to make sure all participants in the process are remunerated properly. This is responsible for the highest vibration of the essential oil.
Processes of extraction
The best methods are used according to the specific qualities of the plant.
I like to choose a company that is actively researching ways to attain the best quality, and that has high standards of cleanliness and purity.
No Alterations
The oils are pure without alterations
Some companies remove certain components from oil like removing the furocoumarin in citrus oils to make them none photosensitive. I prefer to use unadulterated essential oils.
Chemical composition analysis
Easy access to the chemical composition of an essential oil.
Each essential oil has a code printed on the bottle or box with the expiration date and the code for the chemical composition analysis of the essential oil. Companies are required to give this information. Beware of companies that don't have testing or won't send you an analysis or if there are unknown components.
SAFETY
Therapeutic-grade Essential Oils are a powerful support for your healing and growth journey, therefore they must be used with at least a minimum understanding of their properties. Essential oils are a natural medicine but also a powerful one. Therefore, the benefits of having an essential oils counselor are useful.
